I recently traveled to the 1000 Islands to photograph Kim and Matthew at their amazing cottage. My morning started in Kingston, it was a beautiful day with blue sunny skies. My assistant and I traveled by ferry to Wolfe Isand and then took a second ferry to mainland USA. The sky began to lose it's brilliant colour on the first ferry ride and by the time we were on the second ferry we had been engulfed by pounding rain, lightning and incredible winds. I've always been able to figure out some way to make a photo shoot work regardless of the conditions, but this one was going to be difficult. The problem being the only way to reach the cottage is by boat, not something you exactly want to do when there's a thunderstorm! So we waited out the storm at a fine local establishment and finally made it to the cottage at 7 o'clock. The light was pretty dull and everything was soaking wet, but we still managed to get some good photos. When we finished shooting, Kim and Matthew decided to give me a tour of the place before returning to the mainland. While upstairs we noticed two rainbows over the water, so we ran to the boat and started photo shoot number two. The sky turned from dark grey to brilliant reds, yellows and oranges and helped us produce some great photos. I'll be returning to the Islands in August to photograph their wedding, so check back in a month for more photos.
